Inspired by one of the most iconic games ever released for the Amstrad CPC, Harrier Attack ReLoaded takes the classic low-flying action and rebuilds it for a new generation of retro gamers.
Originally created by Durell Software and published by Amsoft, the original Harrier Attack became a household favourite for many CPC owners during the 1980s. Its fast jet combat, bombing runs and instantly recognisable gameplay left a lasting impression on a whole generation of players.
Harrier Attack ReLoaded began as a passion project to explore how far the original concept could be pushed on Amstrad hardware. By studying and reworking the original machine code, the game has been enhanced with smoother gameplay, improved performance and new features, while still retaining the addictive pick-up-and-play feel that made the original so memorable.
Despite common misconceptions, the original game was written entirely in machine code rather than BASIC. Its slower pace came from the way the screen scrolling was handled, along with deliberate timing routines designed to make the gameplay more accessible. Harrier Attack ReLoaded revisits that foundation with modern optimisation techniques to create a faster, more refined experience for today’s retro enthusiasts.
Development of Harrier Attack ReLoaded has been undertaken with the knowledge and encouragement of Robert White, founder of Durell Software and the original inspiration behind Harrier Attack. The original CPC and Spectrum versions were programmed by Mike Richardson.
