Amstrad PCW gotek Floppy Adapter. Condition is Used.
This listing is for just the small adaptor shown in the first 2 photos.
The adapter allows a Gotek USB or SD floppy emulator drive to be fitted internally or externally to your Amstrad PCW 8512 or PCW 8256 computers. Please read the IMPORTANT NOTE below before ordering. No extra cables are needed although we do also sell the Gotek floppy mounting bracket/faceplate to make the drive fit nicely in your Amstrad (not included with this sale, see other listings).
The adapter allows you to use your existing Amstrad cables and 26pin floppy data ribbon, a small modification to the power cable is required, no soldering needed.
A Gotek floppy emulator drive when added and fitted via this adaptor will allow you to use USB storage to load games and software instead of a floppy drive. Jumper pins are also included so you can set the drive to show as Drive A: or Drive B: - there is also a pin for double sided disk compatibility if needed.
Dispatched with Royal Mail 2nd Class. There are no returns on this item due to it being made for use with vintage and retro computer hardware.
Before attaching the Gotek floppy drive to your Amstrad you must check that the 5v wire is going to the correct place on your Gotek drive. Usually the orange and red wires need to be swapped around on the internal power socket of your computer. This can be done easily with a small screwdriver to prise them out and then relocate them. Standard internal Amstrad drives use 12v and not 5v, so the power cable has a 12v wire and a 5v wire (you can check them with a multimeter). The Gotek does NOT use 12v so you risk blowing your drive if you connect the 12v line to its 5v pin. Once the wires are switched everything works fine though (see photos for fitting instructions and guidance or please message me).
